About the Guv

Hello, I'm Kevin. Most people call me the Guv.

I'm 64, I'm English, and I've spent my working life with my hands in the soil. Friends have called me the Governor for years, the Guv for short, and I've always rather liked it.

If there's one thing gardening has taught me, it's this: plants want to grow. Most of the time, when something goes wrong, it's because we've put it in the wrong spot, fed it the wrong thing, or fussed over it at the wrong time of year.

So that's what you'll find here. Where a plant likes to live, when to plant it, how to prune it and what to watch out for. No old wives' tales and no guesswork. Just good, honest gardening.

And yes, the wellies are always red. Now pull yours on and let's get growing.

How this site works

Three things you should know

Kevin is real. The Kevin on screen is AI.

Guv's Gardens is presented by an AI-generated version of Kevin, a real retired English gardener. The pictures and videos of him are made with AI.

Every fact is checked twice

A plant fact only goes on this site when two or more reputable sources agree on it, such as the RHS, university extension services, botanic gardens and state agriculture departments. If they don't agree, we leave it out.

The plant photos are real

Plants, pests and diseases are shown with real, licensed photographs, checked by eye and credited. AI never draws a plant we name. See the photo credits.

Three countries

Plants don't care about passports

Sun, soil, water and good timing. Get those right and most plants will reward you, whether you garden in Britain, America or Australia. The site switches seasons, units and plants to suit where you live.
